Madrid  . . .  (it’s in the name)

The Defending Champion is Marco Penge

This week back to the DP World Tour for the Open of Spain.  Not a usual stop for those of us in the TH.  First played in 1912, the first Champion was Arnaud Massy.   As I am sure you remember, Arnaud was the first non-Brit to win the Open Championship.  Interestingly, this event was held again in 1916 and 1917 . . . not that there was anything else going on in Spain and Europe during that time.  This was one of the foundational events when the European Tour was established in 1972.

FUN FACT:  Our defending champion is married to Sophie Lamb.  A highly decorated golfer, she was low amateur at the Ladies Open Championship in 2017.  Turning pro in 2018, she had one professional win before retiring in early 2022.  She and Marco have been together since 2015, when she was 17 and he was 16 . . . Ain’t Love Grand !

Unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in”
