A police officer called the station on his radio.
“I have an interesting case here. An old lady shot her husband for stepping on the floor she just mopped.”
“Have you arrested the woman?”
“Not yet. The floor’s still wet.”

Well I just got home from the opening round. Started this morning at 5:30m AM. I now have 46 hours in over the first 4-days. Goosen who I said I picked up on Tuesday and that his clubs didn’t arrive walked over to me today and told me they arrived at his hotel at 10:30 that night. That was pretty cool. He didn’t need to tell me anything. AsVP92dBI have been over to Justin Roses house a couple of times. He leaves the courtesy car for his wife and kids so he needs daily pick up and delivery. Picked up Kevin Chappell Tuesday. Nice young man. I must be a bit of a good luck charm. He is on the leaderboard after the 1st round. Picked up Goosen and he’s the leader. Picked up Rose last year several times and he won and this year he is off to a good start. Thursdays are boring, not much activity. Tomorrow will step up after the cut. Players scramble to get out of town. Picked up a few wives yesterday as most of all the players on property. These guy. do marry up…lol..

And now for some unusual humor:
Little Hodakio
The teacher said, “Let’s begin by reviewing some American History. Who said ‘Give me Liberty , or give me Death’?”
She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Little Hodakio, a bright foreign exchange student from Japan , who had his hand up: “Patrick Henry, 1775,” he said.
“Very good! – Who said,’Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth.’  Again, no response except from Little Hodakio: “Abraham Lincoln, 1863.”
“Excellent!” said the teacher continuing, “Let’s try one a bit more difficult — Who said, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country’?”
Once again, Hodakio’s was the only hand in the air and he said: “John F. Kennedy, 1961.”
e0b5729d712c93a77ef34d0f09815de9The teacher snapped at the class, “Class, you should be ashamed of yourselves, Little Hodakio isn’t from this country and he knows more about our history than you do.”
She heard a loud whisper:”F_ _ k the Japs.”
“Who said that? — I want to know right now!? she angrily demanded.  Little Hodakio put his hand up, “General MacArthur,1945.”
At that point, a student in the back said, “I’m gonna puke.’
The teacher glares around and asks, ‘All right! – Now who said that?”
Again, Little Hodakio says,”George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991.”
Now furious, another student yells, “Oh yeah? – Suck this!”
Little Hodakio jumps out of his chair waving his hand and shouts to the teacher, “Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!”
Now with almost mob hysteria someone said, “You little shit! — If you say anything else — I’ll kill you!”
Little Hodakio frantically yells at the top of his voice, “Michael Jackson to the children testifying against him, 2004.”
The teacher fainted. As-the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, “Oh shit, we’re screwed!”
Little Hodakio said quietly,”The American people, November 4, 2008.”

Hello fellow There…metro…Well I’m working the Quicken Loans PGA Tour stop hosted by Tiger this week. I am in transportation. Today I rode around with Justin Rose, his wife and 2 kids for a bit. Then again with  Justin and Sean Foley. maar03-justin-thomasPicked up Retief Goosen at Dulles but his clubs went to Newark N.J. He was on the same plane with 4 others from Orlando and they all got their clubs. Sean O’Hair and two others. Yesterday it was Bill Haas, S. Cink and a few others. It’s nice I get assigned a car for the week to get to and from the course. No shuttle buses and get to drive right to the players lot to park. Lot of hours but it’s only a week, once a year. So I’m cool with it. Talking with the players is fascinating.

Just found this on FB and thought it rather appropriate

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he
asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money
from you, I’m doing community service this week.’
The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a
‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill,

the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doingFunny-Political-Moments-7
community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank
you’ card and a dozen doughnuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Member of Parliament came in for a haircut, and when he went to
pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from
you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Member of Parliament
was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen
Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.

Back to reality after 21/2 wonderful weeks in Europe. I have learned several things in Italy that I’d like to share:
1) If you have a choice don’t visit in mid summer. It was hot and sticky and the lines were very long
2) Smoking is not politically incorrect. Everybody is smoking there and everything is littered with buds
3) Talking about littering, it was downright dirty in the cities with garbage everywhere and overflowing dumpsters as well
4) The man bag is “IN”
5) Italians take their fashion very seriously, many classy dressed women and sharp dressed men alike ( seen one girl take off her runners coming off a scooter and putting on her high heels! )
6) Scooters and smart cars are the preferred mode of transportation and they all drive like maniacs, happy I survived
7) Not all Pizza is created equal, I had the best ever Pizza in Venice and quite possibly the worst ever in Pisacf8e25c4911d5eea108d3eac5163d7a7
8) Ladies like their perfume, even the nuns are wearing it ( Religion is alive and well in Italy, seen many young priests and nuns)
9) Italian wines are great, my favorite was a Sangiovese. Cheap too !!  And try Limoncello for a night cap
10) Cappuccino rules, not sure if I can get by with Starbucks anymore.

In all it was a wonderful experience. The art and architecture over there will blow you away. The Pallazo del Vecchio and the Duomo in Florence, St Marks’ basilica in Venice , and st Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican were my personal  favorites and Portofino and Cinque Terre are must sees as well. And it’s true what the say that you can’t outrun your fork, even with walking at least 10-12 miles everyday I still gained 7 lbs on this trip with all the food, wine, cappuccino and heavenly desserts I consumed. Hey….it was a vacation !!!!!!

Here we go Slingers!!!!  THE Open..greatest of the majors and how fitting that it’s at the Royal and Ancient this year.  Crocodile Dundee once said “Now that’s a knife”…had he said “Now that’s a bunker”, he would have almost certainly been talking about St. Andrews.  On the PGA tour you’re a pussy if you can’t get up an down from a bunker to save par.  At St. Andrews if you’re in a bunker you’re just trying to avoid double bogie.   Though I did witness our very own Golfer Deb get up and down from one of those insane bunkers (the top of the bunker was about 15 feet above her head) at Tobacco Road in N.C.   Too bad Rory isn’t in the mix this week.  Who ever has the lead tomorrow…good luck with that.  This is like an NBA Basketball game….it will all come down to the 4th period (Sunday in this case)…expect lots of lead changes, heroic shots and heartbreaking bounces.  THIS IS, what big time golf is all about.  The best on the planet competing on the hollowed grounds of the “holy grail” of golf courses.   Patience, accuracy and above all putting!

Well never mind The Open.  There were other people playing golf today you know:-)   I was a little bit miffed to find I had been 1333301749084_5502138paired with the highest handicapped fella in our team – almost as though we had been put down as “the losers”,  but what with my lack of recent play that probably was a sensible call.  Very breezy down here in the south but no rain. Ribs (& both hips) still playing me up but made sure I took painkillers in good time being teeing off.  That layoff has certainly done me good.  For the second time this week, I played better than before the injuries.  A gross 88 which I will grab with both hands, thank you.  No mocking from you “players”!  Putted a little too aggressively for the first three holes, but got the measure after that.  Very happy with all aspects of my game. My partner & I won 7 & 6, giving 2 shots to the opposition.  The team won 7-0, but we had the honour of the best win.  Eating some crow, as my partner played  far better than I had expected.  Sure, he put 3 balls out of play, which focused me sufficiently to win on those holes, but he more than won his fair share of the other holes, to the extent I had to jab him in HIS  ribs & suggest that I putt before him, so I could be credited with more W’s on our card.  He took it as the compliment I intended.  Now back to The Open

What a wonderful day.  Played a round of golf today at Chichester Golf Course for the Lady Captain’s Away Day.  The first round in almost 3 months.  Dosed myself up with painkillers, but if I hadn’t been able to play, I would have just chipped and putted my way round the course.  Apart from 2 really horrendous tee shots, I hit the driver really well, long and straight.  Fairway woods consistently good, although not always pretty, a few daisy cutters although they bounced nicely along the dry fairways.  Best of all, the wedge shots onto the greens all went dead straight.  That pleased me no end.  Slight problem in that I was hitting further than I have done before all these injuries so went through the green on a few.  Putting so so, but the greens were enormous compared to home course.  It was quite windy, overcast, and a few squally showers, but hey, it was good to be out there playing and back with friends again.  Long live golf – and golfing gals!!

One last comment on this subject and I’ll (try to) let it go.  I still cannot believe that ESPN is giving Jenner the “Courage Award”.  This isn’t a matter of picking the NBA MVP where you might like LeBron, I like Curry, someone else likes Harden.  This just goes beyond my realm of comprehension.  I have a nephew who has been an Army Ranger for 32 years.  He’s been places and done things he doesn’t want to talk about in order to keep us free.  Jenner a hero?  As I said in one of my e-mails, once the dialog is allowed to be changed you can call a dog a cat…and if you don’t do it you’ll get in big trouble from the PC police.

I’m glad I’m not too long for this world. Two disturbing bits of news this morning…
1. On July 18th both the KKK and Black Panthers are having hate rallies in Columbia SC at the same time. Stay the fuck away from Columbia at all costs.

2. Oregon this past January passed a law where 15 year olds can get sex change operations without their parent’s consent and it’s paid for by the state. Well the state being all the fine tax paying citizens. The argument for this idiotic law is that if the kids go to their parents, their parents won’t be understanding. So you aren’t old enough to vote, or to go to a tanning bed or to buy a beer, but you can get a sex change? You are mature enough to do that???
Someone please just shoot me.

I know this migrated to politics, but rest assured that Trump losing all his public business contracts/ endorsements….that’s business, not politics. It’s “political correctness”. No Government law caused businesses (including professional golf tours) from distancing themselves from Mr. Trump. That’s businessmen not wanting their companies to be caught up in a scandal. It’s always about the Benjamins

Some interesting picks so far.  This is not my weekly analysis.  Just an observation.  We have our obligatory Ko, Park, Lewis picks.  But then we have the Brooke Pancake pick by Bayou.  Brooke’s game has been flat lately.  She has MC’ed the last 8 tournaments.  You could say the odds are stacked against her.  C‘mon now.  If I didn’t say it, someone else would have.  And we also have Wendy’s Jennifer Song pick.  Song is not in tune with her game.  She is definitely not sharp right now.  She has missed the cut 5 out of the last 6 events, and has one Top 20 finish this year.  But she is still the subject of one of my better photos from last year, so that makes it okay.  And I will throw one in of Brooke, too

ciyknb-uwaaasrm-large I watched a lot of free TV this weekend, Saturday we had a “Hopalong Cassidy” marathon and Sunday they showed five of the favorite “Avengers” episodes as a tribute to Patrick Macnee who died last week. Always loved Patrick with Diana Rigg, what a great combination. The ‘Return of the Cybernauts” was like an episode of Dr. Who with Christopher Lee playing the bad guy. I also watched the US women win the world cup while waiting for the race that started too late for me to watch. I really enjoyed the way the US women jumped on Japan early and kept attacking to get a big lead. I know some didn’t like it but I would rather watch some scoring than a bunch of posing and posturing. Way to go girls, world champs.

Read the Open/Speith being prepared comments below and everyone has opinion on the tele about going early or playing in the Deere. 0733587ebb28f7dd616fe9d90025efa6What does it matter if he only plays it twice? They have maps, lasers, caddies and whatever else to get ready. Plus, if his manager has a brain he/she has already called the starter at St. Andrews, gotten the name of the 2 best sober caddies and retained their services for Tues. and Wed. to go around the course with Speith and his caddie. Problem solved.

I have played the Old Course and if you trust the caddie and can hit the shot all is good. The problem is knowing where to miss it. When you stand on #13 tee and the caddie says hit it at the Church Steeple you turn and say ok….which one. Take a look at their website and you will see what I mean.

So today I was looking at pictures on my phone and camera to print as all modern technology has funny-yoga-pose-dying-fat-manpassed her by and she like to put paper in albums . Last time I was there was June so I was looking at pics from July when we were vacationing at Lake Powell and in Utah. As my granddaughter would say OOOO EMMMMMM GEEEEE. I honestly didn’t think I was that out of shape but my goodness I looked fat. In the archives I found a picture from Dec 18th which was the first time the scale went below 200 lbs coming from 215. This morning I was at 171.4 and yesterday I ran a 5 K before going to work. From a snug 36 and XL I’m down to a comfortable 32 and M . It’s been hard work and painful more often than not and I never thought I could survive without potatoes, bread and cheese but after I’m seeing pictures from less than a year ago I think my odds of avoiding a 3rd heart attack just might have improved dramatically. It’s not good if looking at old pictures scares the snot out of you, Jeepers creepers.

At Ms. Metro’s request.

The riddle of political correctness solved by a beloved President.
For the last six odd years, almost all of the things I wanted to write or say, have been stymied by a recently coined term referred to as “POLITICAL CORRECTNESS”! Although I consider myself rather fluent in the English language, that term was not in myimages (4) vocabulary. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to do a little research and after two weeks of chasing fruitless leads, I found what I’d been looking for at the Truman Library and Museum in Independence Missouri . A unnamed source there sent me copies of four telegrams that were between Harry Truman and Douglas MacArthur on the day before the actual signing of the Surrender Agreement. The contents of those four telegrams below are exactly as received, not a word has been added or deleted! (1) Tokyo , Japan 0800-September 1,1945 To: President Harry S Truman From: General D A MacArthur Tomorrow we meet with those yellow bellied bastards and sign the Surrender Documents, any last minute instructions! (2) Washington, D C 1300-September 1, 1945 To: D A MacArthur From: H S Truman Congratulations, job well done, but you must tone down your obvious dislike of the Japanese when discussing the terms of the surrender with the press, because some of your remarks are fundamentally not politically correct! (3) Tokyo , Japan 1630-September 1, 1945 To: H S Truman From: D A MacArthur and C H Nimitz Wilco Sir, but both Chester and I are somewhat confused, exactly what does the term politically correct mean? (4) Washington, D C 2120-September 1, 1945 To: D A MacArthur/C H Nimitz From: H S Truman Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end!

ON NORTHERNERS MOVING SOUTH . .. ….

In the South : –If you run your car into a ditch, don’t panic. Four men in a
four-wheel drive pickup truck with a tow chain will be along shortly. Don’t try
to help them, just stay out of their way. This is what they live for.
Don’t be surprised to find movie rentals and bait in the same store…. Do not
funny-dogs-southern-accentbuy food at this store.
Remember, ‘Y’all’ is singular, ‘all y’all’ is plural, and ‘all y’all’s’ is
plural possessive
Get used to hearing ‘You ain’t from round here, are ya?’
Save all manner of bacon grease. You will be instructed later on how to use it.
Don’t be worried at not understanding what people are saying. They can’t
understand you either… The first Southern statement to creep into a
transplanted Northerner’s vocabulary is the adjective ‘big’ol,’ truck
or ‘big’ol’ boy. Most Northerners begin their Southern-influenced dialect this
way. All of them are in denial about it.
The proper pronunciation you learned in school is no longer proper .
Be advised that ‘He needed killin..’ is a valid defense here.
If you hear a Southerner exclaim, ‘Hey, y’all watch this,’ you should stay out
of the way. These are likely to be the last words he’ll ever say.
If there is the prediction of the slightest chance of even the smallest
accumulation of snow, your presence is required at the local grocery store… It
doesn’t matter whether you need anything or not. You just have to go there.
Do not be surprised to find that 10-year olds own their own shotguns, they are
proficient marksmen, and their mammas taught them how to aim.
In the South, we have found that the best way to grow a lush green lawn is to
pour gravel on it and call it a driveway.
AND REMEMBER: If you do settle in the South and bear children, don’t think we will accept them as Southerners.. After all, if the cat had kittens in the oven,
we ain’t gonna call ’em biscuits.

Bored on a Sunday afternoon after my social couples golf with the old folks…BTW, we won today with 4 under (4 person scramble) and I even won the CTP. We do this to meet people in this community and we played with 2 great folks today. It was fun.
For some thought re: golf and TW. Reading radar’s post about being the best ever? until 2008 or something like that images (5)re-ignited these thoughts but I had to let google confirm something I suspicioned and believe. I have always felt it is harder for a married man/woman with children to compete at the highest level on any tour due to the commitments family life requires. Probably one of the main reasons I have always admired Nicklaus, Palmer, Player and Julie Inkster so much, especially Inkster more than the men in many ways. Inkster is the only woman to complete what was (used to be, they have added a new one) the full circle of winning all of the majors in her career while having children at home.

TW achieved most of his major wins with no children at home. In fact he has won only 2 majors since the birth of his daughter Sam in 2007. Marriage didn’t seem to have any impact if my math is right as he won 7 before and 7 after. True, he has had injuries, swing coach changes, fire hydrants get in the way but any reasonable person would have to agree, if you have had any children to raise, kids do require time. I believe it is having a huge impact on his career as well as his life now, as it should. Make a great day! We’ll see how many Rory wins until he has kids…..?

Played a course in France today, LaLamargue. Really hilly and tough, but incredibly beautiful. I blew up on a few holes on the front nine, but got into the groove and shot a 42 on the back, “which is nice”, It makes me think I can get back into shooting mid-80s again.
We are off to Germany near Lindau next week for some lessons. I cant wait.

Golf report:  My oldest son took me out for 18 holes of golf today in 95 degree heat…at least he tried.  As we played the first 9 holes I drank 3 bottles of water and a cold can of Coke.  We ate a sandwich at the turn and as we started to play the 12th hole I became very dizzy and had blurred vision.  We quit immediately and my son got us a rain check.  I was dizzy on the 45 minute drive home.  I took a cool shower and a nap.  I feel 100% now, but I have NOTHING to prove.  No more golf on 90+ degree days.

Well, there goes my double crown.  I’ve won the Lady Treasurer’s Cup for the last 2 years and would have loved the hat-trick. It was my first round since breaking my toe two months ago, so no great expectations, but I felt fit.  It was more the wind.  It was called a strong breeze – ha!  Nasty cold wind from the NE had the tears streaming down my face the whole day.  Played with a “bandit”, who plays the minimum of qualifying rounds to participate in trophy competitions & maintains a high handicap, but I know she plays a lot of golf outside qualifiers.  Good luck to her and it’s within the rules.  No way is she 10 shots worse than me though.  Third player, a lovely lady, has lost her confidence and after taking 5 off  the tee on the 2nd & 3rd holes declared a nil return.  She played a great 18th though:-)   Onwards & upwards chaps!

Just read where the pitcher Vargas was hit in the gonads by a hot line drive and managed to stay in the game for another inning to get the win. He was angry with himself though for not being able to pick up the ball and throw the runner out at 2nd base. His manager, Ned Yost had a great comeback excuse for him though, he said that Vargas probably saw three balls on the ground and couldn’t figure out which one to pick up first.

Sky reminds me of an old joke that was told at our family reunion about 30 years ago. My family was split between Baptist and Methodist, the joke teller was Baptist ’cause Methodist are liberal. In other words, they would admit to having a drink or dancing, the Baptist would do it but never admit to it.1349111813740_5737644

Did you hear about new Methodist minister, he started calling on his congregation to introduce himself? He goes to the old widow’s house, Mrs. Wiggins and when she opens the door she exclaims Conway Twitty! He looked just like him but he tells her “No ma’am, I’m your new preacher.” She apologizes and says she is so glad to meet him. Then he goes to the newly widowed Mrs. Johnson’s house and knocks. Mrs. Johnson is a good looking young widow and she opens the door and exclaims Conway Twitty! After he composes himself the preacher says “Hello Darling”.

HELL EXPLAINED BY A CHEMISTRY STUDENT

The following is an actual question given on a  University  of Arizona  chemistry mid-term, and an actual answer turned in by a student.
The answer by one student was so ‘profound’ that the professor shared it with colleagues via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well:

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following:acdc-acdc-funny-highway-to-hell-led-zeppelin-Favim.com-352202

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Anabella during my Freshman year that, ‘It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,’ and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct….. ….leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Anabella kept shouting ‘Oh my God.’

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

Laura and I bought this house about 20 years.  It’s approximately 2400 square feet.  Two story 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths.   As you can see the Ficus Tree in the front yard is huge.  Towers over the house.  When we first bought this house is was about 6 feet tall.  I spend several hundreds of dollars every year getting it trimmed.  It’s about 30 feet tall.   The AVI I have is of Hollis and Me in the pool in our back yard.  We live in Avondale, Arizona.  About 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix, Arizona in a community called “Garden Lakes”.   I love Arizona.  The summers are brutal but the winters are spectacular.  We have tons of guns and camping equipment.  Lots of places to go out in the desert.  Phoenix is massive.  When we go to Laura’s mom’s house in Oracle.  The first hour of highway driving is just to get out of Phoenix.  Phoenix and the suburbs are 60 miles across (west to east).

Police are called to an apartment and find a woman holding a bloody 3-iron standing over a lifeless man. The detective asks, “Ma’am, is that your husband?”

“Yes” says the woman. “Did you hit him with that golf club?” “Yes, yes, I did.” The woman begins to sob, drops the club, and puts her hands on her face.

“How many times did you hit him?” “I don’t know — put me down for a five.”

A quick personal story. As an Army brat I was fortunate to live on Ft. Myer, Virginia for 3 years as a kid. Ft. Myer houses Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknowns, and the Old Guard (the soldiers who guard the Tomb). Ft. Myer was divided into North Post and South Post. Enlisted men (my dad) and families lived on South Post. Officers and their families as well as Arlington National Cemetery were on North Post. Both posts were surrounded by 8-foot chain link fences with MPs at each entrance. North and South post were only separated by a two-lane road.

My dad would leave our apt./townhouse, walk across a large field and past the base swimming pool, and take a walkway under Shirley Highway to The Pentagon each day. A few times he took me to work with him. (I’ll have to post my recollections of walking through The Pentagon.)

5048717247_92b6c62f8c_zArlington Cemetery was on North Post, as was our elementary school, and there were times we would intentionally miss the bus and walk through the cemetery. There are some very old tombstones there!
The famous Iwo Jima statue was put in place while I lived on base. Our school bus passed it every day.
Looking back I can see that I took all this for granted and wish I could get a do-over so I could appreciate it more.

Do any of you have similar stories of things we’d all love to see, but you’ve taken for granted? Would love to hear about it!

I would have posted something yesterday after getting home from my long holiday weekend but I was just too tired. I too never served in our military. My dad did in the Korean war. My brother served in the Airforce for  9 years and my son in the Navy for 5. I have a cousin who took a considerable amount or shrapnel in Vietnam and saved a lot of his platoon’s lives and earned a purple Memorial-Dayheart. War sucks. Humans have been warring against each other since the dawn of time. I am thankful for the brave soldiers who both lost and put their lives on the line to protect us and our way of life. It pisses me off when people knock my country, our way of life and how we go about our business. No, it isn’t a perfect country, our leadership is really getting shakier all the time.  The concept of our government of the people by the people for the people is the best anywhere. However it doesn’t seem to be working that way these days. I have read a lot in here about gun control and how too many people are killed senselessly by guns, and about how our police are out of control. There is no doubt that we have race issues and problems with people getting killed when they shouldn’t be. However, I do not like the idea of this president, giving amnesty to illegal aliens, or taking away military grade weapons and armored vehicles from our police force, or any of his other socialistic policies that are in direct conflict with our constitution. Which is why I have purchased not one but 2 firearms since it is my right and obligation as an American to protect myself against all enemies foreign or domestic. Don’t tread on me. I am proud to be an American. It is the greatest country in the world by a long shot. Out of respect for those that gave their lives for it, I dare anyone  to try to take my rights from me.

Memorial Day.  The day that we celebrate the brave men and women that have defended the U.S.  And specifically those that made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.  Politics and politicians come and go.  You can argue the merits  of the politics…but they don’t exist for these people.  When called to do their duty…they simply do it.  The chain of the command is king in their world.  As a “Vietnam Era Veteran” I served from 1971 through 1977.  I was at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii when they brought the first POW’s back from Viet Nam.  I couldn’t in my wildest dreams image the hardships that these troops endured.  These brave soldiers deserve our recognition.  From one veteran to millions of others who sacrificed far more than I did.  Thank You!

April 25 every year from when I could remember, to the day I left home…. Dad moving around the house at 5 am getting ready for the Dawn Parade. My Dad and my Uncle both served in Italy and Egypt in the Second World War.
Dad came home.
The Dawn Parade is held in both NZ and Aus… even here in Singapore. Anzac Day is our Memorial Day.The old Diggers would put on their best suit,  pin their medals on and then march down the main street in memory of the fallen at dawn of the 25th. Most, if not all from those time are gone, but they are not forgotten.Their kids and grand kids pin those old medals on and march for their Dads and Grandpa’s.There is a Hall of Honour in my old home town. Each year, there are wreaths of flowers made by the local ladies. My Mum used to be in charge of it and I used to help. I always made the wreath that would be put around the photo of my uncle in that hall.To this day, the smell of chrysanthemum flowers, takes me back to the Dawn Parade

Yesterday I was at my local Walmart store buying a large bag of My Dog dog food for my loyal pet and was in the checkout queue when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had an elephant? So, since I’m retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn’t have a dog, I was starting the Dog Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn’t, because I ended up in hospital last time, but I’d lost 20 pounds before I woke up in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.walmart-people-have

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pockets with My Dog nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in queue was now enthralled with my story.)Horrified, she asked me if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off the kerb to sniff an Irish Setter’s arse and a car hit me.

There’s no fucking Walmarts in Singapore!!!

When we established the Treehouse many moons ago I was an early member, maybe even a charter member. (Don’t worry, this isn’t a goodbye note.). I got upset early on due to the crass, out-of-bounds sexist comments and I tried to quit. Metro convinced me to stay and I just learned to overlook the “locker room” language. Having said that, I personally find some of the language that male Slingers direct at female Slingers is repulsive, even if it’s meant in fun. I realize that the Treehouse is a relatively “rules free” zone, VwtSKVbaRxm1dEAgnwrl_imagebut can’t we still practice a little civility. For the record..it is 8 that has persuaded me to continue be a part of this fine group of people.  And I think all of you should hold him to kissing my ass in public (see his comment).  LOL.  Turmoil in my life (as I’ve entered the “senior citizen years”) sometimes leads down different paths and I over think things too much…but when I reflect on the good times I’ve had with fellow slingers..those are good memories.  And I’m hoping there will be another Slinger gathering in the not too distant future to add.   There is a lot of history between me and 8 and the Singapore Slingers.  We came to the TH almost exactly at the same time.  We were neophytes together.   And I’ve had the good fortune to hang out with Bryan on two occasions (8’s real name for those that don’t know).    Indianapolis (but that was just for a few hours).  In North Carolina Bryan and I were roommates for 4 days.  We were the perfect roommates…we both snore.  Chevy should think his lucky stars that he didn’t draw one of us as a roommate.  The  Slingers I’ve played the most golf with (in order of times) is Radar, Metro, EMC  and 8.  While the quality of the golf was questionable (speaking for myself)…the company was outstanding!

Barack Obama was visiting a Charlotte primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion about words and their meanings.
The teacher asked Mr Obama if he would like to lead the discussion on the word ‘Tragedy’.
So the the President asked the class if they could think of an example of a tragedy.
A little boy stood up and said, ‘If my best friend is playing in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy.’121025_obama_school_kids_ap_605
‘Incorrect,’ said Obama, ‘That would merely be an accident.’
A little girl stood up and said ‘If a school bus carrying thirty children drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.’
‘I’m afraid not’, said Obama, ‘That’s what we would call a great loss’.
The room went silent. No other kid volunteered.Obama searched the room.
‘Isn’t there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?’
Finally, little Johnny raised his hand from the back of the class and said, ‘If a plane carrying you and all the Democrat senators was hit by a missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.’
‘Fantastic!’ exclaimed Obama, ‘And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?’
‘Well,’ said little Johnny, ‘It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn’t be a great loss, and it probably wouldn’t be a fucking accident either
