The event returns to Quail Hollow this year. This is a Signature Event . . . which means big money and a limited field . . . again . . . seems like these are coming in bunches.
First held in 2003, David Toms was the winner of the “Wachovia Championship”, he earned over a million dollars for being first.
The second year for Truist as a sponsor. The PGA Championship was at Quail Hollow last year which is why it was moved. Back home, unlike last week this is a familiar track for the field.
FUN FACT: When the Great Recession hit, Wells Fargo dropped its name from the title although it continued to be the sponsor. The image of a financial company sponsoring a golf tournament in the midst of a financial crisis didn’t seem like good PR.
