In the TH we didn’t do the Irish Open so . . . Cat vs Cucumber
First played in 1927, the Champion was George Duncan who took home €150. Prices have gone up since then as Rasmus took home just North of €900,000. George was a noted golfer in his day with 22 professional wins including the 1920 Open Championship.
Just looks like a guy you want to party with
This is a bigger than average purse and the National Open for Ireland, so there will be some ‘names’ in the field. This event is known for large crowds (there may be alcohol involved). Past winners include Rory, Shane and Pádraig. Not a lot of winners from the USA, the latest is that giant of the game John Catlin in 2020.
FUN FACT: This event didn’t get it’s first Irish Champion until 1946, when Fred Daly won. The tournament was a contest between Daly and Bobby Locke. Daly beat Locke by 4 strokes . . . third place was 10 shots behind the winner. Like John, Fred was a Champion Golfer of the year.
