The ladies ‘other’ major. On the schedule since 1994, Helen Alfredsson was champion and took home $34,875. She would win here two more times, the most of any player.
The players have always come to this event with mixed feelings. A big event, with a hefty purse, a beautiful setting that treats the players very well . . . except that nobody much likes the course. In 2011 it was “decided” that starting in 2013 . . . it would become the fifth major. I thought being a Major was something that had to be earned?
FUN FACT: In 2013 Suzanne Petterson won $487,500 as the first Major Champion of the Evian. Which is exactly the same amount Inbee Park won in 2012 for the non-Major.
