This Week the Tour’s third Major, the U.S. Open.  Part of the Grand Slam, Phil Mickelson and Sam Snead need(ed) the Open to complete the career slam.  This will be a record 10th U.S. Open played at Oakmont.  The first was 1927 with Tommy Armour as the winner.  The most recent was 2016, when Dustin Johnson was the champion.  It was here that Bobby Jones won his third U.S. Amateur in 1925 and Jack his first Open in 1962.

FUN FACT:  It was at Oakmont in 1973, where Johnny Miller shot a final round 63 to win.  He started at +3 and finished at -5.  The average score for the field that day was 75.45.   Only five players shot under par.  Miller birdied the first four holes and hit all 18 greens in regulation.  His only bogey was a three putt on the 244 yard par 3 eighth.  He still holds the course record.
